What’s the easiest question you’ve ever been asked? For Erika, it was when Alex asked her to marry him.
The path to this proposal was a little more complicated, however. Two great minds. His was working to surprise her. Hers was working to guess the surprise. Erika’s brilliance left Alex with only one option: deception. He had the jeweler send him an email with the #fakenews that the ring had been delayed. It worked! Erika didn’t doubt the truth of the email, but she was disappointed that the ring wouldn’t be prepared for their trip to London, where they were to visit Alex’s family. Not able to bear her disappointment, Alex sprang into action. He cleaned and prepped their apartment while Erika was out waterskiing, and as soon as she walked in the door… he proposed!
I loved this proposal story and every other story that Nick, Alex’s brother, shared during their ceremony. I was surprised to realize that I’ve never been to a wedding before where a brother officiated. A friend, often, but never a brother. It was so fitting to have that role filled by someone with a lifelong relationship to the couple. Nick was warm and witty and – as someone who sees a lot of ceremonies – the perfect officiant.
All in all, not only the officiant, but also Erika and Alex’s entire wedding day was perfect. It was calm, simple, but so special and intimate. Guests had their arms around each other all reception. Even couples that had been together for decades were snuggling close in their seats. The room was overflowing with love and support. Our hearts were so warmed by this wedding and we were so honored to be there. Congratulations, Erika and Alex, and thank you for having us!!!
