hooray you're in!

Tuesday Talking Points, v.17

July 11, 2017

Hey there! I’m writing from Leavenworth, Washington – an insanely, expansively beautiful little mountain town about 2 hours from Seattle. This is the first leg on an adventure through the Pacific Northwest that we’ve been planning for the last 6 months or so.

If I (Becky) had the pleasure of sitting down with you this week, here are a few things that might come up…

What I’m reading: One of the best in a while – A Family Shaped by Grace by Gray Morland, who happens to be the father of interior design blogger Myquillin of Nesting Place. I spent about 20 minutes this morning telling my husband everything I loved about this book, although I’m only through the first two chapter. I’ll try to keep it a little briefer for you. A) This man is encouraging. He’s all about looking ahead, rather than looking behind. B) The emphasis isn’t on “training” children or relationship exercies with spouses or ANYTHING except YOUR OWN mindsets and attitudes.

Highlight of my week: Seeing my older boys, Jack and Marcus, graduate to the “adults table” here on vacation. While the little boys go off and throw rocks after dinner, the bigger ones have chosen to stay at the table and really engage in coversation by listening, talking, and trying out a few jokes. Conversation skills are something that take a lifetime to build, of course, but it’s been so cool to see how far they’ve come with theirs. It’s amazing to be at a stage where I’m actually enjoying my kid’s company and contributions, not just their cuteness.

Little luxuries: We have family coming to stay in our house while we’re gone. This is so great, because I really hate not saying a peep about travel until we’re home. It also would have been so much work to line up all the tiny little things needed to keep the home functional for almost 3 weeks.

Hoping for: Enough sleep along the way. It’s going to be a little challenging with 13 new places in 19 days and 6 of us in a room many nights! But! God answered lots of prayers about our adjustment to West Coast time and nothing will ruin the views we see along the way, not even a little tiredness.

Coming up: Adeile and Chris’s Springfield Manor wedding – so full of surprises!!!!
Pictured today: The point where we came off the river after today’s rafting trip.
