This month’s color combo was particularly challenging for me, because — in my eyes — wearing orange and blue means you’re headed to a Florida Gators game. However, all preconceived notions aside, these two shades look amazing together, as blue and orange are complementary (across from each other on the color wheel) hues. Pairing a punchy orange with a cool blue shade creates a perfectly balanced and stylish look.

Blue and Orange — Marcia Crivorot

Continuing the series of posts with suggestions on how to match colors, today I will talk about blue and orange, also known as a Complementary Combination.

This duo go by this name because they are opposite colors in the color wheel. In case you’re wondering, other traditional sets of complementary colors are red and green and yellow and purple.

SO WHAT IS CONSIDERED “BLUE” AND “ORANGE”?

Technically we consider blue every color that goes from baby blue to midnight or navy blue.

We also consider orange any color that goes from light peach to a shade of brown.

Besides the value (dark x light), we also contemplate the temperature and the intensity of the color, which means that there is a blue and an orange for everyone.

This is very comforting to know, isn’t it?

In the photos below you’ll see different shades of blue and orange that can be found in the stores right now.

3 TIPS ON HOW TO MATCH BLUE AND ORANGE

Tip 1: ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

You can see in the photo with the blue denim dress that you don’t need to be super colorful to wear color combinations. As you can see, if you want to make a more positive impression, go for dark orange sandals. They’ll look much more interesting than a black one, for example.

Tip 2: STYLING HACKS I PERSONALLY USE TO ENHANCE MY LOOK

As I mentioned in other posts, because of my complexion I look good in most of the oranges. Since there are cooler blues that I like and aren’t the best for me, I try to wear either an orange necklace or earrings. If not, makeup can help as well: choose an orange blush and lipstick. I swear that makes all the difference!

Tip 3. ACCESSORIES ARE OUR BEST FRIENDS

If you have an orange top or blouse that you don’t really like or think it doesn’t fit you, try doing the opposite of what I do. Accessories are always super helpful, so why don’t you add a pair of blue earrings or a blue necklace to your outfit?

Just make sure it’s not too delicate otherwise it won’t stand out.

Color combinations can be a little tricky, I know. So if you need to up your styling game and you’re a tri-state area resident (NY, NJ, CT), book an in-person Color Analysis right now.

Disclosure: Keep in mind that I link products and companies based on their quality, my personal opinion, my experience and professional expertise. Some of the links in my posts are affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase I will earn a small commission. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.

Orange color combination in the table. Photo

The combination of orange color is juicy, elegant. They are mainly built on color and thermal contrast, since the main tone is a rich, hot color. However, different shades of orange may have different harmony preferences. So lighter colors tend to soft scales, brighter ones set the saturation level of the pair, and complex, dark ones will have nuances in midtones.
For an example of how the quality of an advantageous combination changes, we will consider tables with the following shades:

Light Orange is a light, pleasant shade. It will successfully replace the parent color, getting rid of excessive brightness and impudence, but will leave a rich mark, especially in the composition, where it will look spicy, elegant, but moderately catchy.
Medium Orange is a bright, pronounced representative of this range. A self-satisfied, radiant, oriental tone that overshadows all complex, subtle shades. However, in the color scheme, he shows himself more noble, especially with neutral tones that hide his excessive aggressiveness and bring style.
Orange-brown - soft, golden, complex tone. Retaining its qualities as a color enhancer, while it becomes modest, natural and even provincial. But the tone can be combined with complex, discreet colors, which it does not interrupt, but makes it possible to open up.

Dark orange - thick, spicy, autumn shade. Its naturalness opens up wide application, and combinations can be both bright, saturated, and complex, intricate. It does not irritate, does not bother and is sometimes lost from sight, but the aesthetics that it makes up in scales will always be recognized and noted by attention.

“Orange is the color of happiness. It often seems to a person that he needs a large orange orange to be happy.0076

Dmitry Yemets

Orange is something between yellow and red. Accordingly, orange adopted the properties of these colors. For example, it draws warmth from yellow and brightness from red. Orange is the only color in the color palette that has no cold undertones at all, which makes the orange combination even more delicious in clothing.

Orange got its name from the French "orange" - orange. In ancient times, the orange was also called the "golden apple", the flowers of the orange tree symbolized fertility. The Greek muses wore orange tunics, so orange was considered the color of earthly and heavenly love.

1

Orange has many shades. Let's look at the main ones.

1. Yellow-orange. As mentioned earlier, orange is obtained by mixing yellow and red in equal proportions. If you take more yellow, you get a yellow-orange tint. This shade evokes associations with hot countries, hot sands, fragrant spices, exotic fruits. Such associations evoke thoughts of rest and relaxation.

2. Red-orange. In this shade of orange, red dominates yellow. Red-orange is a bright, juicy shade of orange, it carries ardor, passion, the spirit of adventurism, but without the aggression inherent in red. The dynamism of this shade excites, tones.

3. Bright orange. The brightest, richest shade of orange. He draws attention to himself, stands out from the rest. That is why bright orange is often used in decoration, graphics, and design.

4. Light orange. This is the lightest shade of orange, which is obtained by adding white to it. It is often found in nature, in the color of flowers and fruits. Therefore, light orange is also the most natural, natural shade of orange. It brings peace and harmony. Light orange in clothes is recommended to be used for romantic images for representatives of warm color types (spring, autumn), since this shade has a certain degree of femininity and tenderness.

5. Dark orange. A rich shade of orange that is close to brown. Brown here extinguishes the activity and vigor of orange, giving it a noble maturity. Dark orange is associated with autumn and harvest. He speaks of the readiness to "gather fruits", symbolizes success and recognition in labor activity. Therefore, dark orange, unlike other shades of orange, can be used in business clothes for warm color types.

6. Rose-orange. This shade is obtained by mixing orange, white and pink. Pink-orange close to apricot. This shade combines the activity of orange with the romance of pink. Therefore, it is suitable for dates, and is also recommended for dreamy natures of a warm color type. The softness and relaxation inherent in pink-orange is out of place in serious business attire, but is well received on vacation.

Women with cool colors (summer, winter) can use shades of orange in shoes and accessories (eg bags) and outdoor clothing (trousers, skirts, shorts).

Of course, when describing a color, it is necessary to consider not only it separately, but also in combination with other colors. This combination always attracts attention. Therefore, courageous girls who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd can afford to wear orange and white ensembles.

Orange + black

Orange and black is another traditional combination. Orange neutralizes the darkness of black. And if you also add a third color to the ensemble - white - such a combination will look bright, stylish and positive. Orange is not often chosen for business attire, but in combination with black it will be quite appropriate to do so. This combination looks elegant and modern.

Orange + brown

Just as chocolate pairs well with orange, so does brown pair well with orange. In a duet, they create a beautiful, cozy image. Moreover, in combination with orange, both dark, chocolate brown colors and lighter, caramel shades of brown are good.

Such a contrast makes this combination bright and extremely expressive. The active message of these three colors is often used in sportswear.

Orange + Violet

Violet is obtained by mixing red with blue. The combination of orange and purple is built on the principle of harmony of related-contrasting colors, the red undertone is unifying. Such contrast looks bright, impressive and bold. The main thing when combining orange with purple is to select colors with the same characteristics, that is, they must be of the same saturation, brightness, depth, etc.

Orange + green

Another bold combination is orange and green. It evokes associations with nature: a flowering meadow, leaves and fruits of an orange tree. The contrast of these two colors looks juicy, bright. This combination is mainly used in summer ensembles. Orange-green clothes give a positive and good mood, charge with invigorating energy, set to enjoy communication.

orange + gray

One of the most successful combinations is orange and gray. The severity of gray muffles the excessive activity and ardor of orange. Visually, gray is perceived as more restrained and moderate than black. Therefore, the gray-orange ensemble looks calm and concise. There is even a certain degree of nobility, aristocracy and elegance in it. If you want to know about the gray color in clothes, then read a separate article on this topic.

orange + gold

Orange itself is very warm, but in combination with gold it becomes generally hot. In order not to “burn yourself” when using these two colors, it is recommended to use them with extreme caution. Such combinations look good in evening ensembles, as they are quite elegant and support the atmosphere of the holiday.
