Tamron makes large aperture ultra wide-angle photography more exciting, and for this lens we focused on usability. The 17-28mm zoom range was carefully selected; that paved the way for a surprisingly small size—just 99mm (3.9 in) long, weighing but 420g (14.8 oz). The overall length of the lens does not change during zooming, thereby offering consistent handling and stable shooting operations. In addition, the Φ67mm filter size is small for a large aperture ultra wide-angle zoom lens. Plus, it shares the same filter diameter as the high-speed standard zoom lens in the series, the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063). This means the same filters such as PL (Polarizer), lens caps and other accessories may be used for both models.

The 17-28mm zoom provides magnificent image quality without compromise despite its compactness. Two LD lens elements and one XLD element (which has properties close to fluorite) are precisely located to quash chromatic and other aberrations. In addition, the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating applied to lens surfaces reduces ghosting and flare that are otherwise likely to occur when shooting against the sunset’s glow and other backlit situations. Leveraging camera functions*, it provides excellent optical performance matching the latest high resolution image sensors from edge-to-edge throughout the entire zoom range. The 17-28mm zoom invites you into the breathtaking world of ultra wide-angle photography.

The 17-28mm zoom features an MOD of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide 17mm end, rendering a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.2. At the tele end, the MOD is 0.26m (10.2 in) and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:6. In short, you can easily get close enough for a powerful shot. Your images can emphasize the perspective unique to ultra wide-angle lenses, and you can produce soft expressions with a shallow depth of field distinctive to large aperture lenses by opening the aperture and getting close to the subject. Versatile, functional and sensational—all at the same time.

The AF drive on the 17-28mm zoom includes an RXD motor unit to help you stay focused on the action. RXD uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear. A sensor that accurately detects the position of the lens enables high-speed and precise AF, which is ideal when shooting continually moving subjects or recording video. Perfect for street shooting and grab shots of groups of friends. And with a focusing system that is both smooth and quiet, the new 17-28mm zoom lets you shoot a video without worrying about picking up ambient drive sounds.

Two high-performance partners, the 17-28mm zoom combined with the 28-75mm zoom, cover the super-broad range from 17mm ultra wide-angle to 75mm medium telephoto, and maintain excellent speed with an open aperture of F/2. 8. The total weight of the two lenses is less than 1kg (33.8 oz)*. Similar in design and operation, both lenses have the zoom ring at the front while the focus ring is at the rear, so you can seamlessly concentrate on shooting after exchanging lenses. And since both models have the same filter diameter of 67mm, filters such as PL (Polarizer), lens caps and other accessories are compatible with both. This compact but potent combo makes the most of the mobility of mirrorless cameras.

The new Tamron Model A032 is designed to maximize the potential of the latest high pixel density SLR cameras while delivering the best possible image quality. The proprietary eBAND coating effectively resists ghosting and flare, making this lens ideal for backlit photography. In addition to the latest autofocus technology, the A032 offers the highest level of image stabilization in its class*1 - with 5-stop CIPA exposure*2. A fluorine coating on the front lens and a rugged, moisture-resistant construction make the A032 an excellent choice for outdoor photography. A built-in lens hood lock gives it extra protection. The combination of cutting-edge technology, versatility and excellent image quality makes the easy-to-use A032 zoom an excellent choice for a wide range of photography genres, from landscapes and portraits to reportage photography.

The A032 contains 17 glass elements in 12 groups, including: 2 XR (Extra Refraction) lenses to counteract optical aberrations; 3 LD elements with low dispersion (Low Dispersion) to minimize axial chromatic aberration (occurring when shooting at long focal lengths), as well as lateral chromatic aberration, which can be a problem at wide angle; 3 GM (Glass Aspherical) Elements and 1 Hybrid Aspherical Lens that effectively cancel out spherical aberrations and distortions, guaranteeing superb image quality. By combining these special glass materials, the A032 achieves previously unseen levels of accurate color reproduction and image quality.

eBAND Coating significantly reduces ghosting and flare Focal length: 24mm Exposure: F/8 1/800sec ISO: 100 The new A032's inner lenses feature a proprietary eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) coating created by by a technology that combined an extremely low refractive index nanostructured layer with a traditional multi-layer coating to provide superior anti-reflection properties. The use of eBAND in combination with Tamron's BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) is successful and significantly limits the ghosting and flare that can occur when photographing backlit subjects.

Zoom A032 has acquired a new control system that uses two microprocessors (MPU) *3. In addition to an MPU with built-in DSP (Digital Signal Processor) units for superior signal processing, Tamron has added an MPU dedicated solely to processing data received from the image stabilization system. The result is faster and more accurate AF and more stable VC (Image Stabilizer) performance.

The new A032 zoom lens features Tamron's unique VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization system. With the addition of an MPU dedicated to VC data processing, the A032 was able to offer the highest degree of image stabilization*1 of 5 stops*2 according to CIPA standards. Now you can enjoy shake-free handheld shooting and greater flexibility for creative shooting even in low light conditions.

Front lens fluorine coating

Fluorine coating for front lens protection and safe cleaning.

The surface of the front lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water and dirt repellent. With it, the lens surface is easier to clean and less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.

The front of the A032 lens is equipped with a locking mechanism that prevents the hood from detaching due to inadvertent contact during use.

Finer adjustment of the diaphragm opening is now possible, as the diaphragm blades are driven and controlled by the engine via electronic pulse signals.
